The Erdevik winery is located in the village of Erdevik, Srem region (today's Serbia) in the western foothills of Alma Mons (Fruška Gora). Surrounded by the gentle slopes of the Fruško Mountains, vast plains in the south and at 140 meters above sea level, Erdevik with its three lakes is one of the most beautiful villages in Srem. In 1697, the greater part of the province of Srem, and with it Erdevik, became part of Austria-Hungary and was ruled by the Italian nobility from the Odescalchi family, who helped King Leopold I defend the city of Vienna during the Ottoman siege. The name of the village of Erdevik comes from the Hungarian word ERDOVEG, which means a wooded area. The first vine was planted in Erdevik in 276 during the reign of the Roman emperor Probus. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the village of Erdevik had many vineyards, so Count Livio Odescalchi built a cellar and a wine cellar. Today's Erdevik winery is a synergy of tradition and a modern approach to winemaking, where premium wines are produced exclusively from its own vineyard on the right bank of the Danube.
