Home of Chianti, Barolo, Prosecco, Valpolicella, Soave, Orvieto, Etna, Italy has a rich and varied wine heritage dating back over four thousand years. Known for its stunning diversity of grape varieties and wine styles, Italy is also notable for the sheer volume of wine it produces: just over 5.6 billion liters (about 1.5 billion US gallons) in 2018 from 695,000 hectares ( 1.7 million hectares) vineyards.
