Origin: Slovenia.

Variety: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot.

Description: Matures for 2 years in oak barrels and 6 months in large barrels at constant temperature and humidity. Red Carolina comes from over 30-year-old terraced vineyards in selected locations of the hilly terrain of the Goriške Brda. It is characterized by mineral-rich marl soil and moderate growth and fertility, which results in an intense, rich and complex wine. Contains sulphite.Sugar: Dry

ABOUT THE WINNER: The winemaking tradition of the Jakončič family farm dates back to 1847. Quality production of grapes and wine at the Jakončič farm is of primary importance. Only such a method of production in combination with specific vineyard sites can be the basis for the production of extractive, mineral-rich and structured wines. The wines are divided into two lines, Jakončič and Carolina. The former is dominated by fresh varietal wines from younger vineyards, while the latter contains several types based on grapes from older vineyards.
