The name Champagne has been a protected geographical origin since 1824 and only wines produced in the Champagne region receive this label. The wine-growing regions of the Champagne region are Montagne de Reims, Valee de la Marne, Cote des Blancs, Cote de Sezane and Aube. The champagne method (traditional, classic method) or Methode Champenoise is a specific production method by which champagne is produced and has also been protected since 1994. Champagne is undoubtedly the most famous sparkling wine produced with the help of a second alcoholic fermentation in the bottle. The cooler climate and chalky-limestone soil create ideal conditions for the cultivation of the three main grape varieties in Champagne: pinot noir (pinot noir), chardonnay and pinot meunier. Most of the wines are not vintage (the base wine is a mixture of several vintages). Maturation on yeast takes at least 15 months (legally specified). Champagnes are only sparkling wines from the French region of Champagne, all other sparkling wines produced elsewhere (including in Slovenia) are exclusively called sparkling wines in our country. Champagne, which comes from the French region of Champagne (Champagne), is the most famous sparkling wine produced in a specific way. Both the name and the production method are protected, which means that sparkling wines from other places and countries are not called that, but can be sold under other names, for example, German sparkling wine, Italian spumante, Spanish cava and Slovenian sparkling wine. So all champagnes are sparkling wines, but all sparkling wines are far from being champagnes. The Champagne region offers ideal conditions for optimal growth and ripening of the grape varieties that make up the famous Champagne. These are usually Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, and some less commonly used varieties can be added to them. The popular sparkling wine, which we like to remember especially during celebrations, is characterized by secondary fermentation, which adds characteristic bubbles to the drink. Champagnes and sparkling wines are most often associated with festive events and other important milestones in life, where bubbles must not be missing.
