Pellegrino Ulysse Etna wine Rosso
Origin: Italy
Year: 2020
Description: This warm and embracing wine is called "ulysse" in honour of the ancient legend where Ulysse, returning from one of his voyages landed in this part of Sicily and captured by the Cyclop Polyphemus. He managed to escape by geting the giant drunk on a bright red Etna wine and blinding him. This wine is still produced from grapes grown in small vineyards scattered around the slopes of the Etna.
ABOUT THE WINEMAKER: Cantine Pellegrino was founded in 1880 by Paolo Pellegrino, a winegrower in Marsala, located on the northwest coast of Sicily. Today, this family business is the leader in the region with more than 300 hectares of vineyards and a range of Marsala DOC, Pantelleria Passito and Moscato wines. Wine has been produced here for thousands of years, but the British boosted Marsala's success as a wine capital. The company, which played a key role in the development of fortified wines from Portugal's Oporto and Spain's Jerez, looked elsewhere for similar products.
