Štrukelj Merlot Wine
ORIGIN: Slovenia, Vipava Valley
GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Merlot
SUGAR: dry
CHARACTERISTICS: a robust, dry red wine with a deep ruby hue and a slightly matte appearance. The bouquet is moderately pronounced, revealing notes of dried fruit, dried figs, and raisins, alongside subtle hints of toastiness. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and distinctly warm, featuring an oily texture, soft tannins, and a relatively short finish. It is aged for 12 months in wooden barrels, which adds complexity and a rounded character. Produced using the classic method in a limited batch of approximately 800 bottles, it has an alcohol content of 15.0%. With its rich body, warmth, and dried fruit aromas, it is reminiscent of the style of famous Amarone wines.
ABOUT THE WINEMAKER: the Štrukelj family has been involved in viticulture for about three decades. Their vineyards are located in the Vipava Valley, near the Vogršček reservoir, where they cultivate approximately 3,500 vines. They began their journey with Malvazija, later planted Chardonnay and Rebula, and in recent years added Merlot. Their dedicated work in the vineyard and meticulous production process result in wines with a distinctive character that reflects the unique qualities of the Vipava terroir.
SERVING RECOMMENDATION: pairs excellently with red meat, game, roasted dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve at 15°C.
