Cigoj Klarnica wine
ORIGIN: Slovenia
YEAR: 2023
GRAPE VARIETY: Klarnica
CHARACTERISTICS: Quality dry white wine PGI Vipavska Dolina. It is also an autochthonous variety that originally comes from the area around Dornberk (Dornberg), where it was also known as "mejina" because it was planted around houses, hence the name. The wine is pleasantly rich, with an aroma of acacia honey. All fresh wines are produced using the same process. At optimal ripeness, the grapes are harvested by hand. The grapes are cooled in chambers at 4°C for at least 1 day. Afterwards, the grapes are ground in a pestle and pressed in a press. It is important that the grapes are pressed chilled, as this prevents various oxidations, which is important in preserving the natural aromas and color of the wine.
WINNER DESCRIPTION: Viticulture with winemaking is the second pillar of their farm. They cultivate 6 hectares of vineyards, favoring indigenous white varieties such as Klarnica, Rebula, Zelen and Malvasia. They focused on the production of fresh and dry, but structurally rich young wines. In exceptional vintages, part of the grapes are macerated. It is an old process of "cooking" on pomace, which produces increasingly prized orange wines. The selection is complemented by red wines, partially aged in wooden barrels, and occasionally a specialty is also added.
