ABOUT THE WINERY: The vineyards of the Meum wine house are located on the hills above the Carthusian monastery of Žička, which was founded by 12 monks from Grenoble. The monastery was founded around 1160 and is one of the oldest in Europe and the first outside of France or Italy. As far as is known, the Carthusian monastery also produced and sold wine, and at Meum they believe that the monks planted two of the most important varieties from France - Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Every year they discover more and more evidence that these two varieties are really working in their vineyards. The location of the Meum vineyards is something special. Their terroir is truly unique, which is further proven in demanding vintages, when Pinot Noir and Chardonnay survive and produce excellent and healthy grapes.
