On the west shore of Roy's Bay, Lake Wānaka, the north-facing Rippon Escarpment forms the junction of terminal moraines and coarse shale-based gravel on which some of the region's earliest vines were planted. Rippon is a wine obtained from all fully developed Pinot Noir vines growing in this land.
